"Token not found", "No token detected" or a token utility that shows nothing at all is one of the most common DSC problems. In most cases the token itself is fine. Work through these fixes in order.
Quick fixes
- Try a different USB port. Use a port directly on the computer, not a hub or extension cable. Prefer a USB 2.0 port if you have one.
- Check for the token light. Most tokens show a small LED when powered. No light usually means a port or cable problem.
- Restart the computer with the token unplugged, then plug it in after Windows loads.
- Test on another computer. If it fails there too, the token may be faulty.
Driver and service fixes
- Reinstall the token driver. Uninstall the old token software from Control Panel, restart, then install the driver that matches your exact token model. Newer token versions may need newer drivers.
- Check the smart card service. Press Windows + R, type
services.msc, find Smart Card and make sure it is Running and set to Automatic. - Remove duplicate DSC software. Several different token utilities installed together can conflict with each other.
- Pause antivirus briefly. Some security tools block the token service. Pause it, test, then switch it back on.
When the token still does not appear
If the token is not detected on any computer, it may be damaged or locked, or it may be a model that needs a specific driver. Send us the token name and a photo of the error and we will tell you the next step. Never format the token unless we have confirmed your certificate is safe.
