Filing GST returns with a DSC (mandatory for companies and LLPs) can fail for several different reasons. This guide covers the most common GST portal DSC errors and how to resolve each one.
1. DSC will not register on the GST portal
- Log in, open My Profile → Register/Update DSC.
- Make sure the signer utility is installed and running as administrator.
- Select the correct signing certificate and enter the token PIN.
- The certificate must belong to the authorised signatory, and the PAN on the DSC must match the PAN of that signatory on the portal.
2. Signing fails or the signer is not found

3. Errors that mention IP address or session
Log out fully, close the browser, check your computer date and time, and log in again from your normal internet connection. Avoid mobile hotspots and VPNs, which change your IP address during the session.
4. DSC works for one signatory but not another
Each authorised signatory needs a DSC in their own name. A DSC can only sign for the PAN it was issued against.
5. After renewing your DSC
Your portal still holds the old certificate. Remove the old registration and register the new one. See DSC not detected after renewal.

- Valid, unexpired Class 3 DSC.
- Token plugged in and detected.
- Signer utility running as administrator.
- Certificate registered on the portal under the correct PAN.
- Stable internet, no VPN.
