The message "Please plug in your DSC" or "DSC certificate missing" appears when a portal cannot see your certificate, even if the token is plugged in. The cause is almost always the signer utility or the token driver, not the certificate itself.
Fix it in this order
- Insert the token first and wait for it to be recognised before you open the browser.
- Start the signer utility the portal asks for (for example emSigner) and keep it running while you sign. Run it as administrator.
- End stuck processes. Open Task Manager, end any old signer or Java processes, then restart the utility.
- Use Chrome or Edge in a normal window, not incognito, and allow pop-ups for the portal.
- Check the token in its own utility. If the certificate is not visible there, the problem is the driver, not the portal. See our token not detected guide.
- Check the date and time on your computer and set them to automatic.
Still not working?
Reboot the computer, plug in the token, open the signer utility, then log in to the portal. This order fixes a large share of these cases.

Does this mean my DSC has expired?
Not necessarily. An expired certificate gives a different message. Check the validity in your token utility.
Why does it happen only on the portal?
The portal talks to the token through a small signer program. If that program is not running, the portal sees no certificate.
